  • Photos taken September 2024

  • For sale in our Bracknell reptile shop

  • Age: CB24 baby

  • Sex: Female

  • Morph: Normal, wild type

  • Adult size range: 24” - 36” (Females larger than males)

  • Handling: Will calm down once used to their new owner, currently a great age to start working with

  • Suitability: Well-researched Beginner

  • Western Hognose snakes are mildly rear-fanged venomous as a hunting adaptation. If a person is bitten, this can act similarly to a bee sting, with some people being more prone to a reaction (swelling and itching) than others. That being said, this species do not tend to bite unless provoked and feeling threatened, and are more likely to give a warning heat butt.

Enclosure recommendations

Baby Western Hognose snakes can be housed in hatchling snake setups (usually a plastic faunarium with an under-tank heat mat connected to a thermostat) until this it outgrown.

Adult males should be housed in 2ft long enclosures as a minimum size, and adult females should be housed in 3ft long enclosures as a minimum size. Thermostatically controlled and guarded overhead heating should be provided. Temperatures should be measured with a digital thermometer or heat gun.
