Handling
This species are mildly rear-fanged venomous as a hunting adaptation. If a person is bitten, this can act similarly to a bee sting, with some people being more prone to a reaction (swelling and itching) than others. Use long tongs when feeding.
That being said, this species do not tend to bite unless provoked and feeling threatened, and are more likely to give a warning heat butt, puff up their bodies in warning, or even roll over and fake death!
Enclosure recommendations
The minimum size enclosure for this species is a 4×2ft vivarium. Thermostatically controlled overhead heating should be provided, with temperatures measured using digital thermometers or a heat gun for accuracy. Low-level shade dweller UV lighting is beneficial.
This species enjoy an overall ambient humidity of 50%, with multiple hides including at least one humid hide filled with moist sphagnum moss, and a deep substrate layer for burrowing.
