Suitability: Keepers with experience and the ability to provide a large enclosure
Adult size range: 2.5ft - 4ft
Natural Habitat: Coastal plains of sub-Saharan Africa, often found in burrows
Enclosure recommendations
Bosc Monitors can be housed in 4×2×2ft vivariums as babies, but require 8×4×4ft enclosures when they are an adult.
When in their baby enclosure, they should have a thermostatically-controlled overhead basking bulb, with adult’s requiring a larger basking area made up of a cluster of multiple basking bulbs to heat their entire body.
They have very high basking temperature requirements, and should be provided with high-range UV lighting.
They also require higher humidity levels within their enclosure, with a deep soil-based substrate layer to allow for burrowing in addition to lots of hides, clutter and enrichment.
Digital thermo-hygrometers should be used to accurately measure temp and humidity.
