  • Suitability: Keepers with experience

  • Natural Habitat: Tropical rainforest areas of South America

  • Mildly Rear-fanged Venomous: this species are mildly rear-fanged venomous as a hunting adaptation. If a person is bitten, this can act similarly to a bee sting, with some people being more prone to a reaction than others. That being said, this species do not tend to bite unless provoked and feeling threatened.

Enclosure recommendations

Adult False Water Cobra’s should be housed in enclosures measuring 5×2ft as a minimum size.

Thermostatically controlled and guarded overhead heating should be used, with optional low-level UV/LED lighting.

They appreciate lots of enrichment, clutter and naturalistic decoration, including a large hide filled with moist sphagnum moss, and a large water bowl.
