The Ackie Monitor (Varanus acanthurus) is a dwarf Monitor Lizard species, meaning it has all the intelligence and characteristics of the bigger Monitors, but in a smaller package! In fact, Ackie Monitors make great alternatives to the Bearded Dragon!

This female would be a great addition to a breeding project and has been with a male already!

  • Missing 1 claw on front left foot, does not negatively impact her

  • Average Lifespan: 15 to 20 years

  • Handling: Become friendly once used to their new owner with positive handling experiences

  • Suitability: Well-researched Beginner

  • Natural habitat: Shrublands and rocky deserts of Australia

Enclosure recommendations

Ackie Monitors require a vivarium measuring 4x2x2ft as a minimum size, although bigger is better!

High-level UV lighting and thermostatically controlled overhead heating is required, with a high basking temperature of 45-50c, which should be measured with a digital thermometer or heat gun.
